BRAND: Pilates Branding Session in San Diego

Today I want to share my experience with you about a recent branding photography session in San Diego. This was such a privilege to shoot that I wanted to share.

So, let me set the stage for you, because this was worth sharing:

A white tote bag sits on a wooden surface with a minimalist design featuring space-themed illustrations, including stars, planets, and an astronaut. The text reads, "Houston, We have a problem." Captured by a San Diego Branding Photographer, the background shows a corner of a gray door with a metallic handle.
A minimalist Pilates studio in San Diego features a wooden reformer machine at its center, surrounded by light blue mats on a polished wooden floor. The white walls, adorned with decorative paper flowers and intricate circular designs in neutral tones, make it an ideal setting for a San Diego branding photographer.
A black pen with the word "contrology" printed on it rests on an open notebook with lined pages. The notebook is placed on a woven fabric, and there's a wooden surface and another object, possibly a stick, in the background—captured flawlessly by a San Diego branding photographer.

I arrived at this lovely studio that was bathed in natural light. I was ready to photograph a live workshop for two talented pilates instructors, Nicole and Andrea. My goal was to capture the essence of their teaching style, live! Also to create images so that they can stand out in the crowded market of fitness branding. No small feat!

Now, as a San Diego Branding Photographer, I am always looking for ways to challenge myself creatively and technically. And let me tell you, capturing live events is no walk in the park. There are a ton of variables to consider, all important! Focusing on lighting, angles, timing, expressions, while also while making sure to stay out of the way so that of the instructors can focus on their students.

But that’s where my experience and expertise come in. I had already scouted the location and done a walkthrough. I spoke with the instructors to discuss their goals and objectives for the shoot. We had a clear plan to capture and the moments that would best represent their brand.

The day of the shoot

On the day of the shoot, I arrived early to set up my equipment and test my lighting. I wanted to make sure that I had everything I needed at my fingertips. Once ready, I could focus on capturing the action as it unfolded.

A serene Pilates studio captured by a San Diego branding photographer showcases a wooden exercise apparatus in the foreground and a person with gray hair in athletic wear stretching on a mat in the background. The studio features wooden floors, minimalistic decor, and potted plants.

When the workshop began, I quickly got into the flow of things. I moved around the room to get different angles and perspectives, while staying out of the way. At times I was assuring the attendees I wouldn’t publish any unflattering images of them. I worked closely with the instructors, providing gentle guidance and feedback to help them look their best on camera.

Looking back at the day now, I feel incredibly proud of the images I have captured. I have successfully told the story of Nicole and Andrea’s brand that highlighted their expertise, personality, and passion. All during a live workshop!

A group of people participate in an indoor fitness class. One instructor assists a participant who performs a wall exercise using a bar. The room, captured by a San Diego Branding Photographer, has wooden floors, large floor-to-ceiling windows, and a door in the background.
Two people engage in a workout with one person holding a bar and another sitting on a blue mat. In the foreground, there is a brown Controversy journal placed on top of two black-and-white speckled notebooks on a wooden floor, capturing the scene as only a San Diego Branding Photographer could.
